Utah Chapter President’s Message February 2024

Hello Chapter members!

As the new year is well underway, we have had the chance to look back at ourselves, our previous year’s successes and to begin planning for this year’s opportunities.  I am very excited to move into the role as President, and to welcome our new board members.

SAVE THE DATES!
This year we will be hosting our bi-annual Reverse Trade Show on Thursday, April 25th, 2024 from 1- 4pm at the University of Utah’s Rice Eccles Stadium.

The success of the event will hinge on the participation of our member agencies/institutions so we hope you can find the time to have a couple representatives attend the show.  Registration notifications will go out near end of month.

What is a Reverse Trade Show?

It is the opposite of a regular trade show. Government agents who work in purchasing departments will staff their booths with information to share, and vendors interested in selling to governmental agencies move from booth to booth visiting the agency staff members.

The March Chapter meeting will be held on March 28th, 2024 from 9-1pm virtually and in person at the Taylorsville State Office Building and registration emails with further details will go out by end of month as well. Lunch will be provided for those attending in person.

Education & Training Opportunity

There is still time to get yourself or anyone on your team enrolled in the SUU class which can serve as a great new hire on-boarding tool and for continuing education.

You may have heard that one of our Chapter Members, Colette Brown, is teaching an online procurement course at Southern Utah University.  The chapter leadership and Board would like to announce we are offering up to 10 scholarships to help with the payment of this course.  The scholarships will be in the amount of $200 payable upon successfully completing the course.  Here is some additional information about this course (covers about half the cost).

Procurement Essentials, Methods, & Management is an online, asynchronous class, available to anyone that registers for it through Southern Utah University. The course will cover all aspects of purchasing in the public procurement arena.

This course is designed for those who work in purchasing and are wanting to strengthen their understanding of policies that govern how purchasing is done in a public or governmental setting utilizing public funds.

In addition to learning the various aspects of procuring goods and services using public funds.  This course will provide contact hours for both the CPPB and NIGP-CPP certifications. (48 for CPPB and 90 for NIGP-CPP) to extend an individual’s certification and/or meeting eligibility requirements.

Participants can choose from two participation options (ranging from $399 - $749):
Procurement Essentials, Methods & Management - successful completion earns three Continuing Education Units (CEU).

Procurement Essentials, Methods & Management Fast Track - successful completion earns three credits that may transfer into associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs at Southern Utah University.

It is a nine-week course with reading assignments, quizzes, tests, discussions, and more to help apply the various concepts which help govern public procurement. The Spring semester is from February 12, 2024 through April 12, 2024 to help those preparing to take the NIGP-CPP or CPPB through UPPCC.

To apply for the scholarship please visit our website at nigputah.org at Registration for SUU Scholarship - 2/12/2024. Select the “Register Now” button on the right of the page once logged into your profile.

Must be a member of the Utah chapter of NIGP to receive the scholarship.  Scholarships will be given on a first come basis.

You or your agency must pay for the full cost of the course.  Upon proof of successfully passing the course the scholarship funds will be distributed/reimbursed.

Please note, the registration of the scholarship is a different process than the registration of the SUU class and both must be completed by the agency/student.

Please reach out to Colette Brown at colettebrown@suu.edu with any questions. https://events.suu.edu/event/procurement-essentials
